Who is Mahdi?

A Call from Heaven

Are you also amazed by this loud heavenly call? This voice is not from a human, but a miracle and divine sign that everyone, in every part of the world, has heard in their native language. This celestial call is from Gabriel, God’s great angel:

“O people! The truth is with Mahdi. He is your leader and guide. He will come soon and will fill the earth with justice and fairness, just as it has been filled with oppression and tyranny.”

This call is a definite sign and good news of the coming of Mahdi (peace be upon him) that was promised to Muslims approximately 1400 years ago. Among other important miracles and promises is the coming of Jesus (peace be upon him) from heaven to earth to assist Mahdi (peace be upon him), which has also been mentioned many times in the Bible.

Who is Mahdi?

Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) is a descendant of the noble Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his pure family). Muslims consider him the savior of the end times who will appear to restore justice and establish peace in the world. During his era, people will do good, poverty and need will be eliminated, and no one will require assistance. Human lifespans will be extended, and the earth will be cleansed of oppression and tyranny.

Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) was born on the fifteenth of Sha’ban in the year 255 Hijri and has remained alive until now. His father, Imam Hassan Askari (peace be upon him), was the eleventh Imam of the Shia. The name and title of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) are the same as the Prophet of Islam, and his most famous title is Mahdi.

The Period of Occultation of Imam Mahdi

Due to threats from enemies, Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) was hidden from sight by God’s command. His period of occultation is divided into two phases:

  1. Short Occultation After the martyrdom of Imam Hassan Askari (peace be upon him) in 260 Hijri, Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) became the Imam at the age of five. During this period, which lasted 69 years, four special representatives conveyed his messages to the people and solved their scientific and religious problems.
  2. Long Occultation After the death of the last representative, the period of long occultation began, and direct communication between the people and Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) was cut off. During this period, religious scholars and jurists are responsible for guiding the people. Shias are advised to know their Imam of the time, maintain Islamic behavior and ethics, and pray and strive for his appearance.

The Government of Imam Mahdi

By God’s will, Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him) will appear and establish a global government based on justice and spirituality. During this time:

  • God will send down blessings from heaven and earth for him. The earth will reveal its treasures to him. All the world’s wealth and resources will be at the disposal of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him), and he will distribute them among the people with unprecedented generosity.
  • Oppressive governments will be destroyed, and oppression, corruption, wars, and unrest will be eliminated. The earth will be filled with security and peace.
  • People’s power of intellect and understanding will increase, and Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him), with divine guidance, will bring humanity to the highest level of intellectual and scientific development.
  • Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him), the sixth leader of the Shias, says: “Knowledge is twenty-seven letters, and all that the prophets have brought is only two letters of it, and until now, people are familiar with only those two letters. During Mahdi’s (peace be upon him) government, he will introduce the other twenty-five letters and spread these new sciences among the people.”
  • Animals, plants, and even nature will benefit from the blessings of his government. This is because oppression and tyranny will end not only for humans but for all beings.

In summary, during that time, human society, under the leadership of Imam Mahdi (peace be upon him), will achieve the highest scientific and technological advancements in all fields. He will make the world prosperous and bring humanity to true glory and happiness.
